What has always been very important to me as an architect is building new homes that feel like they have some age. Though it was entirely new construction, this traditional-style brick house incorporates some whitewashed volumes that imply it might have been renovated or added onto over the years. Designing ceremonial entries to rooms is another trademark of my work. From the front door of this home, you can see all the way outside to the swimming pool, creating a truly indoor-outdoor feel for a family that loves nature.

I filled the rooms with eclectic collections of seating, unique entertaining spaces, as well as bespoke furnishings and detailing, like a leather-wrapped handrail on a white oak and steel stair, fabricated by collaborators I have worked with since I started my design build business in 2005. It was the first time I'd made custom things, and I became obsessed with it. My client had an opinion on everything, particularly color — she only likes tan, white, and a pop of chartreuse — but she gave me liberty to explore what I would now consider the signatures of our studio.
