My relationship with this client goes back more than a decade, to a high-rise residence I designed for him before I was doing full interiors work.
When he was ready to move to a house, I already knew him well enough to know his preferences. His taste runs traditional and classic, with a clear sense of the colors and objects he's drawn to. He gardens, cooks, and paints as a hobby, despite practicing law by day, and all of it shaped a house built around how he lives. It draws on classical forms and my own Southern upbringing, though the architecture stays clean and free of anything fussy.

The client had inherited a small collection of modernist furniture, including a Corbusier lounge chair, and while he loved the pieces, he was not sure how to use them. Rather than store them away, we found places for them throughout the house, and set against the traditional backdrop, they feel unexpectedly fresh.
Some furnishings are antique, others newly purchased, chosen to complement what the client already owned. An English roll-arm sofa and a Windsor chair join the Corbusier lounge chair in the living room. The entry hall sets a traditional tone with simple styling: an antique mahogany chest with rich wood grain and brass hardware and a graphic black-and-white marble floor underfoot, hinting at more to come. Traditional lighting, pattern, and a distinctly preppy color story run through the house, the source of its nickname.
