Taking cues from the other properties in the neighborhood, we created a pared-back, two-story Spanish-style brick home. The second floor has a separate entrance at the back, so guests can pop out without disturbing the rest of the house, or quickly head down to the large yard for a dinner party on the veranda, where we created a dining table with a quartzite top on limestone balls. Inside, the client needed white walls, and lots of them, for her extensive, eclectic, and ever-growing art collection.

But the house didn't need to feel exclusively like a gallery. In a palette of mostly black, white, and wood, we used a mix of vintage, contemporary, and custom standout pieces to create a relaxed, lived-in style. A double-sided fireplace from my STRIKE collection warms both the cathedral-like dining room and adjacent lounge. We also repurposed as many beloved pieces from the client's previous 1920s Tudor house as possible, giving them new life with upholstery or a new function entirely.

Having seen a lot of houses in her line of work, my client has a definite opinion on everything. She's always wanting something not on trend. I think that's why we get along.
